Andrea has kindly shared her experience of attending the practice with leg pain that threatened to disrupt her hobbies and interests. Over to Andrea…
“My name is Andrea, I have been retired since 2020, my husband and I love walking our rescue dog Filipe. I attended Fay Pedler Physiotherapy clinic in June 2024 as I was experiencing a great deal of pain in my leg which was preventing me from walking any distance and was severely hampering my ability to walk Filipe.
I made an appointment to see Clinical lead Ricky who had treated me previously for sciatica which, with Ricky’s help, had cleared up so I knew I could trust him.
Following a thorough assessment (and a catch up on the Rugby Six Nations – I am Welsh and Ricky is Irish so it’s always a lively discussion!) Ricky diagnosed me with having lateral hip pain which is a mixture of gluteal tendonitis and trochanteric bursitis. Ricky initially recommended hip strengthening exercises with massage to the tight muscles and tendons.
Unfortunately, this only helped a little, so we discussed other options. Shockwave therapy or a guided steroid injection were recommended as treatment options for reducing pain and providing an opportunity for exercises to progress. I was made an appointment with specialist physiotherapist Rich Rendle at the clinic who performed an ultrasound scan to fully ascertain what was going on in the tissue around my hip. From the ultrasound images Rich was able to identify the likely cause of my symptoms, further advising a steroid injection direct to the inflamed tissue which was administered there and then.
I saw an immediate improvement in my pain. I continue to have physiotherapy appointments with Ricky to improve my hip flexibility and progress rehabilitation and whilst the pain has not yet completely abated it is 70% better than before and continues to reduce week on week. I can walk further and faster than before and my increased mobility has helped me lose a stone and a half in weight – which also helps.
I recommend the Fay Pedler Physiotherapy Clinic, the staff are friendly, welcoming and excellent at getting to the root of the problem. I am grateful to Ricky for all his help.”
Andrea’s story highlights the Fay Pedler Physiotherapy clinic as outstanding bringing together years of clinical experience and holistic patient centred treatments.
Additionally the story highlights:
TRUST – Andrea had been successfully treated by Ricky before and was confident he would thoroughly assess her and provide a diagnosis and initial treatment plan.
RE ASSESSING – At Fay Pedler Physiotherapy clinic we constantly re-assess patients progress in-order to evaluate if current treatments are working or if we need to change plan.
EXPERTISE – Ricky is the Clinical lead at Fay Pedler Physiotherapy clinic and through years of clinical experience he understands when best to change tact when treatments do not yield the desired effect.
ULTRASOUND SCANS – A relatively new service at the clinic which allows patients undergoing rehabilitation and treatment to be referred to Rich Rendle for a definitive diagnosis with minimal wait. Where appropriate guided steroid injections are offered, however the images may also highlight the need for onward referral to surgical colleagues at the Hospital which we will also facilitate.
