We thought it may be nice to re-introduce some of the familiar faces here at Fay Pedler clinic and welcome the new ones to you also!
Today we catch up with Physiotherapist Nick Fulton.
What is your background?
I was born in Coventry and had a very sporty childhood involving football and tennis, however competitive swimming was my main sport. As is the nature of the sport, injuries to my shoulders took their toll which is where I was introduced to physiotherapy.
I initially studied sports science at the University of Hull for a year then following a summer working abroad as a lifeguard I transferred to complete my sports rehabilitation degree at the University of Bolton. I always had a strong desire to work in professional sport which was the reason for initially completing the sports rehab degree, however during my time on placement at Bolton Wanderers Football Club it was apparent that I needed to undertake the Physiotherapy degree to in order to achieve the roles in sport I desired. I went on to complete my Physiotherapy degree at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol.
What areas have you previously worked in?
My first role on qualification was head of sports science and medical at Shrewsbury Town FC. I progressed to work for Stoke City FC as principal Physiotherapist for the U9-16s travelling on numerous Tours abroad including Dallas with u17s and Switzerland with the u20s. I realised at that stage that I needed to expand my physiotherapy knowledge and went to work with the military as a senior Physiotherapist for 6 years whilst also completing extra studies with the Bath University sports injury clinic including match day and clinic cover for Team Bath Superleague netball team.
My passion for football was still burning in the background which is why I left the military to join Bristol City FC as a loans physiotherapist, progressing to work with the first team on a daily basis. I had a brief period as interim Head Physiotherapist of the Bristol City FC Women’s team following Covid-19 lockdown and then grasped the opportunity to become Head of Physiotherapy for the mighty greens, Plymouth Argyle. More recently I have consulted with Ipswich Town FC to assist in their transition to the Premier league.
