We thought it may be nice to re-introduce some of the familiar faces here at Fay Pedler clinic and welcome the new ones to you also!
Today we catch up with one of Fay Pedler Clinics’ owners, Alex.
What is your background?
I completed my Physiotherapy degree in 2005 at The University of the West of England, Bristol. I have climbed the physio ranks at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust where you will find me during the week. I currently spend half my time as a Physiotherapist managing musculoskeletal conditions and the other half working alongside Neurosurgery consultants assessing and managing lumbar spine pain, sciatica, slipped discs etc. I came to physio relatively late with my first career providing monthly management accounts for small businesses.
What areas have you previously worked in?
As a Physiotherapist, I have experience in sports with pitchside rugby and amateur running. Clinically I have rotated through the pain services, orthopaedics, neurology, cardiac, paediatrics, stroke units and musculoskeletal outpatients within the NHS.
What is your role at Fay Pedler clinic?
I assess and treat patients on a Wednesday evening and Saturday morning, other evenings on special request. Previous life skills have landed me the job of managing the monthly accounts. I’m also responsible for ongoing social feeds, collecting and disseminating patient feedback to the staff and supplying the rewards for achieving excellent positive feedback. With my business partners, we work hard behind the scenes to drive the clinic forward clinically and as a business.
What are you most proud of?
My wife and two children. My mum tells me I have done very well! My wife’s friends tell me she is out of my league!
What’s the best thing about being part of the Fay Pedler team?
We are all keen for our patients to have the best outcome whether that be treatment resulting in return to normal function, rehabilitation to develop greater conditioning or advice on the best pathway to manage symptoms effectively. Additionally, we regularly meet up with our families and enjoy each others company away from clinic which bonds us as a team.
If you weren’t a member of the Fay Pedler Team what would you be?
I would have enjoyed being a lead singer, professional Rugby player or footballer. I’d quite like to be a carpenter however the projects I embark on never quite turn out as good as I imagine they would!
More importantly….
If you could share a bottle of something with any 3 people in the world, who would they be?
I’d pick a decent bottle of red wine…
My school friends as I rarely see them however I know we would slip straight back into the familiar routine.
What is your favourite song(s)?
Deacon Blue – Dignity, Coldplay – Viva la Vida, The Killers – Mr Brightside
Where in the world is top of your list to visit?
Spain.
What is the one thing that may surprise people about you?
I’ve been to Ramsay Street and Summer bay, stood in Alf’s bait shop and shook Stuart Parkers hand!
